I was so drawn to this book because I love the blurb and the cover was stunning but within the first couple of chapters, my liking started to wind down。 I didn't like Skylar, she felt too like a teenager and I get what she went through was hard, her attitude especially when she was around Parker didn't help for me to end up liking her。 Now, Parker i didn't dislike but he had some bully attitudes that I cringed while reading。 I get the alpha male hero but this wasn't that。
This book has this rating for the end, I find it sweet and cutesy and I enjoyed it a lot。

Great readThis was a great read。 Skylar was a selfless woman that put her emotional well being on the line for her next door neighbor and a small child。 The sense of family he has with his recon buddies and she has with her best friend was a great addition。 The story did lack an explanation of the resolution, to this readers liking, of the baby mamma drama。

Good readFirst of all I want to thank the author for honoring a military family。 I’m beyond disappointed that the majority if not all of the books in the genre end with the military person giving up his job。 I’m glad that the author showed that one can be in the service and have a family。The book was a good read however it’s a shame that we had to wait almost till the end to move beyond the cliché of the fake fiancée and the unfit baby mama。 What happened to Skylar in her past, her pain then and Good readFirst of all I want to thank the author for honoring a military family。 I’m beyond disappointed that the majority if not all of the books in the genre end with the military person giving up his job。 I’m glad that the author showed that one can be in the service and have a family。The book was a good read however it’s a shame that we had to wait almost till the end to move beyond the cliché of the fake fiancée and the unfit baby mama。 What happened to Skylar in her past, her pain then and now, having to relieve the loss of her son every day whilst taking care of a neglected child, those topics were worth more pages than they got。 I also found it frustrating that we didn’t have more details on what Skylar looked like。 Dark skin and fluffy curls is a bit light on the details。 It also bothered me that she was “whitewashed”。 I liked how Parker stood up for her with his parents, however it was irritating that the real issue that his mother had with Skylar wasn’t addressed。 The ending was also rushed。 From when they got engaged, to living together, to having sole custody to him getting deployed and her basically raising Cullen, all topics that I would have liked to read about。 。。。more

I was drawn to this book because of the blurb。 It sounded right up my alley。 I'm so glad that I read this one。 I really liked Skylar a lot。 She's battling some demons and when she puts that aside to help Parker with Cullen she proved the heart she has。 My favorite scenes are with Cullen and Skylar。 They are so precious with him with his little tool belt and workbench。 It's so sweet how he gravitates towards Skylar。 It's not all sunshine and roses because Cullen's birth mom is a nasty piece of wo I was drawn to this book because of the blurb。 It sounded right up my alley。 I'm so glad that I read this one。 I really liked Skylar a lot。 She's battling some demons and when she puts that aside to help Parker with Cullen she proved the heart she has。 My favorite scenes are with Cullen and Skylar。 They are so precious with him with his little tool belt and workbench。 It's so sweet how he gravitates towards Skylar。 It's not all sunshine and roses because Cullen's birth mom is a nasty piece of work。 Parker is yummy, but I wanted to knock some sense into him several times。 The story especially Skylar's backstory hit me in the heart。 This is a make you feel good story。 The epilogue was the cherry on top for this family。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I have mixed feelings about this story。 There are positives such as the way Skylar, the heroine, is described when relaxing。 She’s a woodworking artist who enjoys crosswords and classical music and her relationship with her work is presented well, as is the gentle way she cares for Cullen, the frightened little three year-old boy who moves in next door。 I also liked the fake fiancee trope, though this showed hero Parker up in a less than ideal light。There are also negatives。 For a woman who enjo I have mixed feelings about this story。 There are positives such as the way Skylar, the heroine, is described when relaxing。 She’s a woodworking artist who enjoys crosswords and classical music and her relationship with her work is presented well, as is the gentle way she cares for Cullen, the frightened little three year-old boy who moves in next door。 I also liked the fake fiancee trope, though this showed hero Parker up in a less than ideal light。There are also negatives。 For a woman who enjoys crosswords I found Skylar’s vocabulary really limited。 Parker, the injured marine next door and alleged father of Cullen didn’t resonate well at all for me。 He has loud obnoxious parties when he’s home on leave, he treats Skylar appallingly at first, for example banging on her door during one of his parties just so he can borrow her blender and assuming she’ll pretend to be his fiancee and let him move in with her all without even asking her first。 His parents are obnoxious, racist snobs who definitely deserved a dressing down and the mother of his son is a bitch。 Add to this the fact that every second word is f*ck or f*cking and you might just get the picture that I wasn’t all that taken with the story。 I’m sorry because I read it through hoping to change my mind but sadly to no avail。 。。。more

Skylar picked up the pieces of her life after tragedy and now lives a peaceful life in her house with her woodworking business。 The only disruption is her next door neighbor Parker。 He’s gone a lot as he’s a Marine but when he’s home it all loud parties and half dressed women and cars parked in Skylar’s driveway。 She’s counting the days until he is gone。。。 even though she’s rather attracted to him。 But they aren’t friends they are neighbors who can barely speak to each other without it going bac Skylar picked up the pieces of her life after tragedy and now lives a peaceful life in her house with her woodworking business。 The only disruption is her next door neighbor Parker。 He’s gone a lot as he’s a Marine but when he’s home it all loud parties and half dressed women and cars parked in Skylar’s driveway。 She’s counting the days until he is gone。。。 even though she’s rather attracted to him。 But they aren’t friends they are neighbors who can barely speak to each other without it going back。When Skylar hurts herself it’s Parker to the rescue。 He takes her to the hospital stays with her and completely ignores the people hanging around his house。 He’s very much attracted to Skylar and for reasons he hasn’t made a move。 Until now。 But just as he’s ready to make move a huge curve ball is thrown in the mix in the form of a woman he had a onenightstand with four years ago and the 3 year old son he never knew existed。 In order to keep his baby mamma at a distance while figuring out of this is in fact his son, Parker comes up with an idea。 He decided to announce that Skylar is his fiancé so while baby mamma Gemma and little Cullen stay at his house he moves in with Skylar。 And the events that follow are full of drama, disaster and heartache。 There’s more than mere attraction between Skylar and Parker and things get complicated very fast。So there was something about Parker that kinda put me off from the start and I can’t figure out what it is。 Maybe his personality? Though there was all the stuff with Gemma and him being kinda spineless multiple times。 Skylar also got on my nerves but I get that she had trauma that isn’t something you just get over。 So I guess she gets more of a pass for that, but they were both annoying。 It wasn’t a bad story but like Gibson and Ioan I don’t think Parker deserves Skylar。 Though both of them could have solved a lot of problems before things exploded in their faces if only they had real conversations。 Yes opening up and sharing yourself with another person is hard but they seemed to make everything far more difficult than it needed to be。 Also Parker’s parents are sucky people and I can’t understand their feelings towards Skylar at all, especially considering that Gemma was a mess。 All in all it was ok I was curious about Skylar’s secret emotionally scarring backstory。 Both Skylar and Parker (mostly Parker) were annoying but I still read on wanting to know what would happen。 I mean you can guess how a romance story will end but there’s always the chance of a surprise twist or turn along the journey。 There weren’t many surprises or anything complex I think I expected Gemma to be more of a threat but she was just petty and childish。 This was my first read by the author and I would be open to reading her work again though I’m not sure I like her writing style there was something about it that was a little off for me but that’s just my personal opinion。 。。。more

I really wanted it like this more than I did。 The hot marine next door neighbor and shy next door neighbor was a perfect premise but the storyline got a little lost when his past surfaced。 I often had a hard time accepting the cruelty of the characters。 They were able to make amends at the end but I wanted to see more of them as an actual couple。 I received a copy of this book for a honest review。

Tina,
This was a quick read filled with well worn tropes that was at turns comfortable and yet still somewhat unsatisfactory。At its heart this is an enemies-to-lovers/ fake-dating storyline。Parker is a marine who lives next door to Skylar a wood-artist/craftsperson。 Whenever he comes back from a mission his house becomes party central for the first few nights for his team。 Skylar suffers through the cars blocking her drive but she makes her displeasure felt。Even while She and Parker exchange barbs and This was a quick read filled with well worn tropes that was at turns comfortable and yet still somewhat unsatisfactory。At its heart this is an enemies-to-lovers/ fake-dating storyline。Parker is a marine who lives next door to Skylar a wood-artist/craftsperson。 Whenever he comes back from a mission his house becomes party central for the first few nights for his team。 Skylar suffers through the cars blocking her drive but she makes her displeasure felt。Even while She and Parker exchange barbs and insults over their shared fence, they are massively lusting for each other。 During his latest leave, things come to a head。 Parker is injured so he is is grounded until he gets the all clear。 The animosity between him and Skylar is at an all time high。 Until an ex-hook up shows up with a surprise in tow。 And Parker enlists Skylar's help。So the foundation gets laid for a fake engagement so that ex-hook up doesn't get ideas while a DNA test is in the offing。On the one hand, I found the enemies-to-lovers deal with Skylar and Parker fun。 Their snarky back and forth was good as was their little bit of hot and cold that went with it。What didn't land as well was the fake dating。 It felt contrived (more than usual) because Parker rather high handedly claimed Skylar as his fiancee without her input。 And of course she does not demur because 。。。 lust。。。 and they latch onto it as an excuse to be in each other's orbit。 This wouldn't be so bad, but it felt。。。 immature of these two。Also there is a bit of tonal dissonance for me。 The way the fake dating is written, Parker acts and speaks as if it is a real thing。 Skylar at least reminds him it isn't, but then she kinda lets him railroad her a bit so she gets pulled under by scheme。 He introduces her to his family as his fiancee。 I can't put my finger on it, but this whole thing never really coalesced for me。Added to that there is the ex-hook up who insinuates herself into their lives。 Again here, this did not work for me, another area of tonal dissonance。 Parker is supposedly this tough alpha dude but his treatment of the ex felt like bluster and theater。 I get that we are supposed to feel good about Parker that he is willing to work with the mother of his child, but she was a walking cliche (and a super terrible person and mother) that was used as an external conflict device when there was already enough conflict to be had。 And finally, I was kinda pissed at Parker。 Skylar basically upended her life was doing him a huge solid and it was his people who were shitting on her life but if just felt like he just didn't have her back in situations where he should have with enough conviction for me。One smallish note, this is an ARC so it may be corrected in final publication, but at one point Parker is referred to as 'Brodie'。 It was just once but it felt like maybe Brodie had been the character's name at one point but this one instance of it got missed。So while this was an easy read and at no point did I feel like I wanted to set it down, it was rather frustrating in places。This is an honest review is based on an ARC received via Netgalley from the publisher。 。。。more
Stephanie Panach,
I just didn't love this。 I wanted to - but the more I read, the less I liked it。 Honestly - I felt like Skylar deserved better。 I also felt like Cullen deserved better too。 Parker Jax is not a bad guy - but he felt like a fairly immature alpha - and even though he clearly loved Skylar and Cullen - he was not ready to put them first in anything。 There were several parts of the book that didn't make a lot of sense to me either - which might have been because I wasn't invested enough to read closel I just didn't love this。 I wanted to - but the more I read, the less I liked it。 Honestly - I felt like Skylar deserved better。 I also felt like Cullen deserved better too。 Parker Jax is not a bad guy - but he felt like a fairly immature alpha - and even though he clearly loved Skylar and Cullen - he was not ready to put them first in anything。 There were several parts of the book that didn't make a lot of sense to me either - which might have been because I wasn't invested enough to read closely - but still。 As a side note - this book definitely needs a trigger warning for some unexpected content (view spoiler)[ drug use, child neglect/abuse, and loss of a child and spouse。 (hide spoiler)]。The premise of this book had a lot to offer - but the characters just didn't deliver for me。I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own。 。。。more
